Utlandet, a Norwegian word meaning “abroad”, emerged onto the scene in 2020, a time when going abroad seemed but a distant dream. The band’s name epitomizes their diverse musical influences, drawing from a multitude of genres and artists. Comparable to the likes of Khruangbin, Funkadelic, Air, BadBadNotGood, and Augustus Pablo, Utlandet’s sound encompasses a rich tapestry of musical styles.
Renowned for their energetic live performances, Utlandet made their mark with the release of their debut album, “Grandfather of Yucca,” under the prestigious Jansen Records label in 2023. This eight-track album serves as a tribute to the captivating Yucca plant and the adventurous spirit of American merchant and explorer, Josiah Gregg.
Their second album “Guru/Charlatan” was released on August 30, 2024. This time around the band delivers a warning against the deceptive allure of charlatans and false prophets, whether they manifest as religious leaders, politicians, or life coaches.
Utlandet are Alexander Bosrup (saxophone) Anders Bjørke (bass guitar), Audun Lunnan Hjort (percussion and keys), Even Vaa (percussion and vocals), Johan A.S. Jørgenen (guitar), Kristoffer Solvang (drums) and Steinar Aarsland (keys).
